MARGAO
The Sonsodo waste treatment plant is choked with waste again, leaving garbage workers with no option than to unload the daily waste on the approach road to the plant.
Tuesday saw the daily wet waste collected from the city being unloaded on the approach road to the plant. Reason: No contractor was ready to provide heavy earth moving machinery, including a poclain to the civic body, required to push inside the daily waste dumped at the door step of the plant, for want of payments for the work done in the past.
Trucks laden with waste, which went to Sonsodo plant, unloaded the waste on the approach road for want of space inside the plant.
Inquiries have only revealed that the civic body has been literally sitting on the files for the payments due to the contractors supplying the earth-moving machinery. Since the payments were delayed, no contractor was ready to supply poclain to the civic body to push back the waste dumped at the entrance to the plant.
Given the situation, sources in the know said the files of the contractors were being routed to the sections for clearance.
Officials, however, said the work of deploying earth-moving machinery at the Sonsodo plant will begin only on Wednesday morning, indicating that garage collected tomorrow morning will also be dumped on the approach road to the waste treatment plant.
