The body was eventually spotted floating in the river and recovered by rescue teams. It has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The incident had sparked a large-scale search along the river stretch near Sanvordem. Fire and emergency services personnel, police, navy divers, and local volunteers had been engaged in continuous efforts to locate Fernandes.
