Two rebel panchas of the ‘group’ reportedly backed by Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, on Monday voted to oust Borim Sarpanch Costancio Luis.
The no-confidence motion was passed against the sarpanch by 3-6 votes.
It may be recalled that former sarpanch Jyoti Naik was voted out of office on May 16, after a no-confidence motion moved against her by the ‘group’ was passed by 2-7 votes.
A special meeting was convened on July 14, to elect new sarpanch. Luis and Deepali Naik (from Naik’s group) were in the fray for the post of sarpanch. Though both were from the ‘group’ backed by the minister, two rebels within the group helped Luis to win. He also had support of Jyoti Naik and Panch Dinesh Raikar. Luis got 5 votes, while Deepali Naik got 4 votes.
Sources informed that Mahadev Naik had expressed his interest that Deepali Naik should become the next sarpanch. But defying the order, Luis filed his nomination during election process, exposing the rift between Mahadev Naik’s group.
However, six panchas on July 18 moved no-confidence motion against Luis.
Earlier, Panchas Dinesh Raikar and Jyoti Naik were considered as opposition to Mahadev Naik’s group. Now, Luis is also considered as opposition to the group.
Deputy Sarpanch Prashila Muli, Deepali Naik, Tulshidas Gawade, Nutan Naik, Sanjay Gawade and Parimal Samant had moved the no-confidence motion against Luis.
Speaking to The Goan, former sarpanch Sanjay Gawade said they will decide whom to make new sarpanch.
