It may be recalled that in January 2014, a leopard was found dead in this area, which had proved the existence of wild cats in the area. The carcass was spotted at the sluice gates of a pond, which provides water to areca nut plantation in the area.
According to the villagers, they had spotted leopards in the area and other wild animals near the pond and in other areas many times. Though there are few houses on this hillock, the animals are seen moving in the area.
"They are mostly spotted during cashew plantations season. We get afraid to work in the plantations. Now, we have got a bit of relief after leopard is trapped. But there may be more leopards in this area," a villager said.
The villagers said they had stopped coming out of the houses at night as leopard was moving in the area.
