Much to everyone’s surprise, the male enrolment in Goa’s Higher Education has witnessed an impressive increase since 2014-15.

According to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2021-22, nearly 10,655 male students opted for higher studies from 2014-15 to 2021-22, as against 5,119 girl students-which is against the national trend.

While at All India level, female enrolment in higher studies recorded an impressive 32 per cent increase since 2014, in Goa the jump is minimal- that is from 24,898 in 2014-15 to 30,017 in 2021-22.

Interestingly, for the very first time, the year 2021-22 saw, male students overpowering female students in higher studies. The data, released by the Union Education Ministry, reveals that as against 35,398 male students opting for higher education, the female number was only 30,017. The year saw, total 65,415 students taking up higher studies like Doctorate, Masters, post-graduation, under graduation, post-graduation in diploma and diploma.

Except for the Post-Graduation, boys have outnumbered girls in all other categories. In fact, not a single female candidate opted for Masters in Philosophy in 2021-22, while there were ten male students.

The past data shows that female students have always overpowered male students in higher studies. In 2019-20, 52 per cent females opted for higher studies as against 47 per cent male, while in 2020-21, females were 51 per cent and male 48 per cent.

Goa has around 62 colleges offering various specialized subjects.
