Attribute it to the forthcoming BRICS summit or otherwise, Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar on Tuesday had a joint meeting with representatives of the St Francis Xavier Chapel committee and engineers of the Margao Municipal Council to discuss how to shift the religious structure to the other side of the road by September 30.
Chapel committee member and former President, Osvie D’Costa, told The Goan that the committee and the people of Madel the committee will not be in a position to demolish even a part of the religious structure as per the suggestion of the district authorities without handing the acquired land to the panel.
Osvie, however, hastened to add that the committee will welcome if the municipal and district authorities demarcate and hand over the land admeasuring 700 sq mts for the shifting.
Panchwadkar told The Goan that he has only asked MMC to expedite the process for shifting of the chapel to the alternate place on the acquired land by September 30. “No direction has been issued to anyone to shift the chapel immediately. There appears to be some miscommunication, Panchwadkar stated.
