Stating that his topmost priority would be to eradicate lawlessness in Zuari Nagar, Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar appealed to the residents to elect him in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a election meeting near the old petrol pump at Zuari Nagar, Borkar said lawlessness was at its peak in Zuari Nagar and people were living in fear. “I assure that if you elect me, the topmost priority would be to ensure that people live in peace, freedom and in dignity,” Borkar said to a thunderous applause from the residents.
In an attempt to appease the Muslim community, Borkar assured them to provide land for kabrasthan.
However, Borkar, who unsuccessfully contested the 2012 Assembly elections emerging third after late Matanhy Saldanha and Nelly Rodrigues, did not divulge the party on which he intends to contest or if he wishes to contest as an independent candidate.
As reported, Cortalim ZP member Anthony Vaz has already announced to contest as an independent candidate and promised to release his manifesto after studying the requirements of each village in the constituency.
Likewise incumbent MLA Alina Saldanha and NCP candidate Nelly Rodrigues have also started house visits to woo voters.
With all the candidates trying to impress the 9,000 voters based in Zuari Nagar, who are mostly migrants, those who manage to garner the highest number of local voters could emerge victorious.
