PORVORIM
Several trucks have been dumping construction debris and trash in the open space alongside the service road at the entrance of the Housing Board colony in Porvorim.
Residents have complained that the debris has created a habitat for rats and snakes, besides filling the air with dust and pollution.
“This is bad for health, bad for our children and spoils the beauty of the area” complained a resident of Housing Board colony.
“If this illegal dumping of debris in the open space is not stopped, it will become a nuisance in future. Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has been converting open spaces in the panchayat area into parks and gardens. This open space should also be utilized for a community project to prevent it from being misused,” the resident added.
When contacted, panchayat sources said the open space belongs to the Serula communidade.
“Construction debris and trash are being dumped at night. We have informed this to the Porvorim Police,” said a panchayat source.
