Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar on Friday said all MMC councilors should conduct free medical camps in their wards to check for any health issues among residents in their ward. Gaonkar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a non-communicable disease health camp in his ward by Vasco Health Officer Dr Rashmi Khandeparkar and other doctors.
The camp saw a large attendance and several residents were checked for health issues regarding non-communicable diseases. “I thank Dr Khandeparkar for bringing in other doctors to this camp in my ward. I have advised all my councillors to hold such camps in all their wards because health is wealth and these kind of camps will be for the benefit of people,” Gaonkar said.
Dr Khandeparkar said the government has also been was encouraging such non-communicable disease camps. “Non-communicable disease camp is being organised across all health centres and the importance is to check on non-communicable diseases like pressure, diabetes, cancer, etc... Our lifestyles have changed and we are exercising less. That is why we are creating awareness through such camps.”
“We are checking people in the area for any non-communicable disease . We also have a gynaecologist in our camp who can check for diseases among women. We also check for weight related issues and suggest diet patterns during the camp,” said
Dr Khandeparkar.
