In another development, the Colva police are on the look out for the third accomplice of the alleged thief Mario Baptista, who has gone into hiding since his arrest a day ago. DySP Dinraj Govekar told The Goan that a Colva police team has recovered the 1500 pounds at the instance of the accused. “The accused had buried the amount in the ground after successfully committing the burglary at Majorda. After burying the amount, the accused had placed palm leaves around the place”, DySP Govekar said. Replying to a question, he said the Colva police has arrested two goldsmiths, including one Ramnarth Lotlikar and Mahendra Haldankar, for allegedly receiving stolen property from the accused, taking the number of persons arrested so far in the burglary cases to five. “After the arrest of the two goldsmiths, the police has obtained a three-day remand for them. They are in police custody and are being interrogated”, DySP Govekar said.
Replying to another question, he said the police are on the look out of the second accomplice of the accused Mario Baptista.
“The accused has presently gone into hiding. He used to provide logistics support in the commission of the burglaries,” the DySP added.
