MARGAO rBurglars appeared one up against the men-in-uniform in the ongoing game of “Chor-police” between Margao police and burglars in the commercial capital. r With burglars striking at will in the city over the last one month, shuffling their operations from Aquem in Margao to Borda in Fatorda, Margao police has indeed come at the receiving end, with the local police sending an SOS to the police headquarters to dispatch additional police force to keep the burglars at bay. rSunday night saw the entire police force descending in the Borda area of the city in the wake of the spate of burglaries at Borda, wherein the miscreants are believed to have decamped with gold booty worth lakhs of rupees. However, while the police tried to plug all entry and exit points of Borda, the burglars struck back at Aquem Sunday night, making their presence felt in a bungalow after breaking open the rear door of the closed premises. Though no major valuables were lifted away from the bungalow, the incident only indicated that the burglars have a free run, striking at closed houses at will. r Baffled over the spate of thefts, senior police officials informed that an IRB platoon has been deployed in the Aquem and Borda area of the city, adding that additional reinforcements have been sought from the police headquarters. “Police inspectors, PSIs and other police force has been deployed at Margao since the last few days in view of the spate of burglaries in Margao,” informed a senior police officer, who has sought cooperation of the public in cases where they come across people moving in their localities in suspicious manner. r In the meantime, taking serious note of the rising incidence of thefts and burglaries in down South, top police officials are expected to have a meeting with policemen, right from the constabulary to the rank of PIs at Margao on Tuesday. r In the meantime, the Margao police detailed two persons, from Assam and Bihar, who were earlier involved in property offenses. While one of the suspect has been handed over to the Ponda police, the Margao police is interrogating the other suspect to ascertain their role in the spate of thefts in the city. r Inquiries have revealed that the duo used to stay at Mandopa-Navelim when they used to come down to Goa. “We are trying to find out whether the landlord had submitted details of the tenants to the police as per the requirement of law”, informed a senior office.
