A burglar broke into the Brahmadev temple in Brahmakarmali-Sattari on Tuesday night and stole cash from the donation box.
A villager had gone to the temple to clean the premises at about 6 am on Wednesday, when he noticed the lock of the donation box was broken.
He alerted the temple committee and other villagers, who rushed to the temple. After discussing the matter, it was decided to file a complaint at the police station.
A Valpoi police team went to the site and began investigations into the burglary. Bicholim SDPO DySP Wilson D’Souza, Valpoi Police Inspector Videsh Shirodkar, and Bicholim Police Inspector Vijay Rane also visited the site to take stock of the police investigations. A police dog squad and a forensic team were also pressed into service.
CCTV cameras installed in the temple premises captured the burglar breaking open the lock of the donation box and stealing the money on Tuesday night. However, the amount of money stolen from the donation box is unclear.
Based on the CCTV footage, the temple committee and locals have demanded that the Valpoi police arrest the burglar within 48 hours. Locals have expressed shock over the burglary at the temple. “The Brahmadev temple in Brahmakarmali-Sattari is the only one of its kind in Goa and the burglary is truly unfortunate, even though CCTV cameras have been installed in the temple premises,” said Shivaji Desai.
