As part of the third round of the ‘Khushal Kalyan Yatra’, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai visited various religious and memorial sites in South Goa on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife Rita Pillai.
He began his day at Shree Shantadurga Ballikarin Temple at Balli, welcomed by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, and the temple committee. There, he presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 to the temple’s Devasthan Samiti.
Next, he visited Shri Nirankar Saunsthan Devalaya at Mashem, where he was greeted by Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar and Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Nisha Chari. After receiving blessings, he garlanded the nearby Freedom Fighters’ Memorial and learned about its history from journalist Sandesh Prabhudessai. He was introduced to descendants of key freedom fighters, including the late Anthony D’Souza, Goa’s first Industries Minister.
At Mano Sobha Kalaghar, also in Mashem, Prabhudessai briefed him on the centre’s activities promoting the arts. Pillai also took note of the unique ‘Vandenui’ river in Loliem, as shared by Poinguinim Biodiversity Committee Chairman Subhash Mahale.
He placed a wreath at the Hutatma Smarak in Poinguinim and visited the 800-year-old Shree Betal Devalaya. He then halted at Hathipal Forest Rest House for lunch.
In the afternoon, Pillai visited Zamatul Muslimeen Sunni Jamia Masjid in Demani-Cuncolim, where he was welcomed by Alemao, Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Lendary Mascarenhas, and masjid officials. He concluded with a visit to Our Lady of Health Church in Cuncolim, where he and his wife offered prayers.
The Governor is visiting places of worship across Goa to pray for peace, happiness, and the well-being of the people and the country.
