Burial ground opening by civic body an eyewash: Sada Kabrastan panel

VASCO
Sada Jetty Bogda (SJB) Kabrastan Committee President and Congress leader Nazir Khan on Friday hit out at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), claiming that the inauguration of the burial ground at Sada on Goa Statehood Day by the council was an eyewash.

In a press note, Khan said while the SJB Kabrastan committee was not taken into confidence nor invited for the inauguration of the burial ground, the work undertaken by Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) was not up to the mark.

“We were neither consulted nor taken into confidence before the inauguration of the burial ground at Sada. We had handed over the kabrastan to GSUDA for renovation but since date despite the inauguration, the Kabrastan is not handed over to us.”

“We had complained to Mormugao MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and also called for a joint meeting with GSUDA officials to show that there had been leakages in the office area and that, the renovation was not up to the mark. We were then assured that repairs would be carried out and also completed within a month,” said Khan.

Khan said they were unsure if the repairs pointed out by them have been taken up and added that they have not been given possession of the Kabrastan.

“While we understand that there can be ups and downs due to the Covid pandemic, they claimed to have inaugurated the Kabrastan at Sada through MMC on Statehood Day.”

“As president of the SJB Kabrastan Committee, I want to say that this inauguration is an eyewash and we condemn this inauguration. The works are incomplete and I want to request Urban Development Minister Milind Naik to initiate steps to hand over the Kabrastan to us.”

“If GSUDA fails to carry out the works, our committee has the capacity to carry out the works,” said Khan.
