Peace was disturbed in the Aquem area of the commercial capital on Monday morning when a group of bus drivers and conductors became involved in a violent altercation at the bus stop near the St Sebastian Church junction.
Local residents expressed their frustration over the frequent fights between the drivers and conductors, who often compete to attract passengers.
Residents have called on RTO Enforcement Assistant Director Nixon Soares and his team, as well as the Margao Traffic Cell led by DySP Rajendra Prabhudesai, to take action against the fighting drivers and conductors.
“Our children are getting late for school because of the constant jostling between bus drivers and conductors. The RTO and Traffic Police need to take strict action,” said Sanjeev Sawant.
The Margao Police reportedly arrested eight individuals in connection with the incident.
One person was seen with a bleeding face after being punched by a rival group. A police team that responded to the scene had difficulty getting the troublemakers into their jeep.
Locals noted that such fights between the conductors and drivers are a common issue at the St Sebastian Church junction bus stop, as they compete for passengers coming from the nearby Margao railway station.
