CURCHOREM
“The SWTP will come up at Cacora as there is a need to have a permanent solution to tackle the garbage issue in the State. Besides treating garbage from Curchorem, garbage from Canacona, Dharbandora, Sanguem and Quepem areas will also be treated in the new SWTP, as it will have a capacity to treat 100 tonnes of waste,” said Cabral, while speaking to The Goan.
Seeking to allay apprehensions over the garbage plant, Cabral added, “There have been speculations that garbage transportation will generate stink, but in fact, there will not be any foul odour during transportation of waste, because the vehicles will be equipped with the necessary technology to ensure no spillage takes place.”
Commenting on opposition from certain quarters, the Curchorem MLA said he had waited patiently during his previous term as MLA, so that those opposing the project at Cacora could suggest an alternate project with advanced technology.
Meanwhile, Nilesh Cabral has planned a special trip for locals to the SWTP at Saligao on April 17, so that they are convinced about the capabilities of the project.
“I have printed pamphlets with information on the new SWTP to be set up at Cacora. Waste from Sonsodo-Margao will not be sent to the new SWTP at Cacora, but will go to the new SWTP to be set up at Verna,” said Cabral.
