PWD Minister & Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral on Saturday appealed to families residing in the vicinity of a landslide at Taki-Xeldem to shift to safer places, as the area surrounding the hillock is unsafe for habitation and there are possibilities of further landslides.
Cabral was speaking to reporters after visiting the landslide site at Taki-Xeldem, where mud from the adjacent hill gave way and entered a residential house due to heavy rains.
A portion of the compound wall was damaged and the affected family had to take shelter at the neighbour’s house.
After inspecting the landslide site, Cabral said the area surrounding the hillock, where the landslide occurred, is unsafe for habitation as there are possibilities of further landslides.
Cabral also informed that he instructed the Disaster Management team headed by the Deputy Collector to have a team to keep an eye on the area.
Cabral has also advised the families residing in the vicinity to evacuate to safer places on account of uncertainties, especially since no heavy machinery could presently be deployed at the site for fear of more damage to the surrounding area.
