Two days after announcing his resignation from the AAP, Sudesh Mayekar who was the AAP candidate for Calangute constituency, joined the BJP along with his supporters on Saturday.
"Mayekar was initially a BJP worker in Calangute constituency. He was BJP General Secretary but quit the party and joined the AAP due to differences with then BJP MLA Michael Lobo. After the elections, he has come back to BJP and we welcome him,” said BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade while welcoming Sudesh Mayekar into the party.
Tanavade said all leaders will be taken into confidence in Calangute for the panchayat and Lok Sabha elections.
Mayekar thanked state BJP leaders for giving him a chance to return to the BJP.
“Forgetting what has happened in the past, we have to come together for the betterment of Calangute. We will see that the BJP wins back in Calangute constituency,” said Mayekar.
Sudesh Mayekar, who had previously served as deputy sarpanch in Calangute, said he would contest the panchayat elections with the support of BJP.
Mayekar has contested election in Calangute constituency as an AAP candidate and had polled 1769 votes, coming in the fourth position. Congress candidate Michael Lobo won the election defeating the BJP candidate Joseph Sequeira.
