Calangute Cong rebels join TMC, say BJP is our main enemy

MAPUSA
The Calangute Congress rebels along with their supporters joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday and for a change targeted the BJP calling the saffron party as their main enemy.

Former MLA Agnelo Fernandes also said that if the TMC forms an alliance with Congress then there were other options available to them to defeat Michael Lobo.

“Our main aim is to get rid of the BJP and all their allies. What has happened in Calangute is that the BJP has foisted their candidate in the Congress. In fact, even AAP’s candidate in Calangute has a very close connect with the BJP. We feel TMC is the best party to take the BJP out of Calangute,” Fernandes said.

The former Calangute MLA and ex-vice president of Congress was addressing the media along with ex-sarpanchas Joseph Sequeira and Anthony Menezes after embracing the TMC. Along with them former Calangute Congress block president Benedict D’Souza and around 300 workers joined the TMC.

Incidentally, the rebels had given a clarion call for Congress hatao and Goa bachao two days ago after they resigned from the party for inducting Michael Lobo into the Congress.

Speaking further, Fernandes informed that the TMC leadership assured them that there will be no alliance with Congress. “If there is an alliance with this man (Michael Lobo) then we have other options.  Our main aim is to defeat Lobo,” he said.

Former sarpanch, Anthony Menezes said, all the Congress aspirants had remained united but the Congress ditched them at the last minute without taking them into confidence.

Slamming the Congress, former sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira said that Congress was not the same party as it was before.

Welcoming the new members into the party, Lok Sabha MP and Goa election in-charge, Mahua Moitra condemned Michael Lobo’s entry into the Congress.

Benaulim MLA, Churchill Alemao said Congress was almost wiped out from Goa and after the announcement of three key schemes both Congress and BJP were rattled.

BJP gave supari to Lobo: Kandolkar

MAPUSA: Taking a dig at former minister and ex-BJP MLA from Calangute, TMC leader Kiran Kandolkar on Friday alleged that the BJP has given supari to Michael Lobo to finish Congress by asking him to join the grand old party. “BJP knows that it’s not getting elected in the 2022 assembly polls and that is why they sent Michael Lobo to Congress,” Kandokar alleged.

He further alleged that Lobo has leveled most of the fields in Calangute and has now set his eyes on the fields of Bardez. “The Bhandari samaj will never give Lobo an opportunity to finish Bardez and Goa,” he said.
