Call for audit, accountability on Margao sewerage project

MARGAO

Saying his grandfather and former MLA of Margao, Anant alias Babu Naik had initiated the Underground Sewerage System in Margao way back in 80’s, Madganvcho Awaaz leader Prabhav Naik has lamented that the present MLA Digambar Kamat has failed to complete the project in last 30 years of his tenure, despite being Chief Minister of Goa from 2007 to 2012.

Reacting to the repeated instances of overflowing of sewage due to breakdown in pumps, damage to sewage chambers etc, Prabhav demanded comprehensive audit of expenditure incurred on the sewerage system Project in Margao.

“Scientific and technical methodology is not followed while laying the pipeline for sewarage network. Haphazard works are carried out which result it chocking of pipelines, overflowing of chambers and other issues,” he said.

He added: “Sewerage Network is one of the many projects in Margao which expose the incompetency of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat...I am sure that he received favours from the contractors and hence allowed sub-standard work in sewerage network of Margao.”

Lamenting that Margao MLA Digambar Kamat could not complete this most needed infrastructure even during his tenure of Chief Minister of Goa, Prabhav said he is proud that his grandfather had the vision to initiate this project way back in the 80s. “Time has come to change the incompetent MLA of Margao who is responsible for all deterioration of Margao”, he said, while making a plea to Madganvkars to introspect and take a firm decision to bring change in Margao.

He said Madganvcho Awaaz will soon prepare an Action Plan to redevelop Margao taking into confidence experts in town planning, architects, engineers and other stakeholders, said Prabhav Naik.
