City-based physician and surgeon, Dr Venkatesh Hegde has said wearing of N95 mask, even two masks if needed, social distancing and avoiding crowded places, besides double vaccination will help in fighting Omicron virus.
In a statement, Dr Hegde said Dr Shekhar Salkar has rightly said that by January 20-30, the number of cases of Omicron will rise to the maximum. “He has rightly made the people aware of the Omicron wave but one thing he has not mentioned is that Omicron is not a deadly virus, though it spreads fast, but will not make patients serious or result in deaths as we by the Delta,” he said.
Dr Hegde, however, said there is today a wave of fear in the environment, as people are scared and the doctors need to be careful while making a statement.
“The positive thing is Omicron is not deadly, no serious effects. The symptoms will be milder like throat pain, fever, cough, running nose but no severe symptoms as the virus does not affect the lungs nor cause injury to the lungs and there will no symptoms like lack of smell or taste, as it will not affect the brain,” he said.
Dr Hegde added: “No other serious problems like Deep Vein Thrombosis will take place. Another good thing about the Omicron is very mild symptoms in people who have taken two doses of vaccine.”
