Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai on Sunday wondered why is the government hesitant to allow a judicial probe into the jobs-for-cash scam presuming the Goa government considers the enquiry by Goa Police to be unbiased and impartial and which concluded in reaching the conclusion that there was no political connection to the ongoing scam.
He said the role of Goa Police nowadays is perceived to be of “caged parrot”, an expression the Supreme Court used to describe the CBI’s role in coal block allocation in 2013.
Reiterating his demand for a judicial enquiry into the ongoing jobs-for-cash scam, citing public outrage and the loss of trust in the Goa Police’s ability to conduct an impartial investigation, Sardesai condemned the clean chit given by the Superintendent of Police (SP), stating that it is widely believed ” by former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, other prominent leaders, and the public ” that politicians are involved in this scam.
“The functioning of the Goa Police is like that of a caged parrot,” Sardesai remarked, criticising its lack of independence.
