MARGAO
In an interesting development, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has made it plain clear to the fish wholesalers that the PDA will process their applications for NOCs only if they comply with the guidelines laid down by the Food and Drugs Administration and local authorities.
In a letter addressed to the wholesale fish market Association, SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar pointed out that the applications made by the fish wholesalers will be taken up for discussions at the meeting of the PDA scheduled on November 26.
Ashok Kumar, however, made it clear to the wholesalers that the PDA’s decision on their applications will depend on the compliance of the FDA guidelines and norms set by the local authorities.
Incidentally, the SGPDA’s meeting is scheduled on November 26 morning, while the MMC will have its meeting on Monday evening, raising doubts whether the wholesalers will receive the much awaited permission to resume fish trading operations back in the wholesale fish market.
Incidentally, Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai told The Goan on Friday that the Municipality will adopt a cautious approach before taking any decision on the sensitive issue. She said the Municipality will wait for the SGPDA to take a decision on the applications made by the wholesalers, pointing out that the SGPDA is the owner of the wholesale fish market.
