Canacona police arrested a man from Kerala but residing at Chapoli on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 5.25 lakh on Tuesday.
The accused, Walter Fernandes (49) was allegedly found in possession of MDMA (24.4 gms),
Charas (111.2 gms), and Cocaine (3.4 gms).
According to SDPO DySP Nilesh Rane, Canacona Police conducted a narcotics raid at Devabag Football Ground, Canacona, following credible intelligence and nabbed Fernandes red-handed while in illegal possession of multiple narcotic substances.
The drugs valued at Rs 5.25 lakh was allegedly brought for delivery to a prospective customer. The narcotic substances along with the vehicle were seized under a search-cum-seizure panchanama.
The accused was arrested and placed in police custody. Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages.
This seizure marks the third major narcotics bust by Canacona Police, after PI Praveen Gawas took charge of the police station. Further investigations are in progress under supervision of the Canacona SDPO and guidance of SP South.
