The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to enhance seasonal fees and introduce fees for inspection of structures and NOCs for electricity connection, before granting of seasonal licences to various tourism stakeholders on its coastal area, which includes the world-famous Palolem beach.
During a meeting on Tuesday, CMC councillors deliberated on applications received from various tourism stakeholders for seasonal licences.
According to municipal sources, around 55 applications, mostly pertaining to NOCs granted by GCZMA to set up huts, shacks and stalls along the municipal coastline at Palolem, Patnem, Colomb, and Rajbag were produced at the council meeting.
It was decided to depute a municipal engineer to conduct a site inspection, before the council proceeded to issue seasonal licences.
In another important decision to generate revenue to the council, the CMC also passed a resolution to enhance seasonal licences fees of various tourism structures.
The fees would be Temporary Structure/Huts (Rs 5,000), Shacks (Rs 15,000) and a refundable Security Deposit (Rs 5,000).
Other fees would be site inspection (Rs 2,500), issue of NOC for electricity connection (Rs 1,000) and issue of NOC for stalls (Rs 10,000).
Besides, any seasonal resort providing temporary facilities of a swimming pool would be charged a seasonal fee of Rs 50,000.
CMC Chairperson Chaya Komarpant, Dy Chairperson Shamsunder Desai, most councillors, Chief Officer Raju Dessai and the municipal engineer were present at the meeting.
CMC seeks extra land to upgrade
garbage treatment plant
CANACONA: The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to upgrade the Garbage Treatment Plant at Dumane and will approach the forest department to acquire additional land of about 10,000 sq. mtrs available adjacent to the Dumane GTP.
CMC has decided to sign an MOU with the forest department to acquire the land, where it will set up equipment for effective treatment of garbage. The Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation Dy Managing Director Seema Raman, briefed councillors on the need for additional land adjacent to the existing GTP to effectively deal with the garbage treatment.
