Canacona council to get projects worth Rs 15 cr

Key developmental projects, including a new fish market and beautification, worth Rs 15 crore will be set up in Canacona municipality.

Canacona MLA & Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar discussed these projects at a meeting with GSIDC and GSUDA officials at the Government Rest House at Shristhal. Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Sara Naik Desai, Vice-Chairperson Gandesh Madgaonkar, Councillors Amita Pagi, Hemant Naik Gaunkar, Laxuman Pagi, and Narcisco (Nadin) Fernandes were also present at the meeting.

Tawadkar asked officials of GSIDC for a blueprint of the beautification of various municipal roads, including the NH66 stretch passing from Char-Rasta-Chaudi-Sheller as well as beautification along the road from Chaudi to Ponsulem, Char-Rasta to Devabhag and Palolem including the drains and railings, at a cost of around Rs 11 crore.

The GSUDA is also expected to lay the foundation stone for a new fish market in January at a cost of over Rs 3 crore.

GSUDA officials informed that the new municipal building is likely to be completed by January and will be inaugurated shortly thereafter.

It was also discussed to erect a shed at the old bus stand Chaudi where the Sarvajanik Ganesh idol is worshipped during Ganeshotsav festivals and a crib is set up during Christmas Week.

GSIDC officers/officials including Senior Project Officer Reshma Kamat, Engineer Tanmay Mahajan, GSUDA Senior Project Officer Marcia and Consultant Datta Kare were also present in this meeting.
