There were atleast six incidents of tree falls damaging houses, while many calls were attended by fire personnel clearing trees from the roads including NH17.
While this report was filed, fire personnel had rushed to Agonda, where a house caught fire and some personnel spread in different teams were yet to reach three other tree falls on houses in different places of Canacona.
The fire personnel informed that the first call was received at 5.45 am to clear a tree that had uprooted on the road at Tirval-Poinguinim. Soon another call was received after a tree damaged house belonging to Tula P Deikar at Shisheval, causing damages to the tune of Rs 10,000.
The fire personnel cleared the tree that had fallen on the road near Shri Mallikarjun Temple, Shristhal. Fire personnel also cleared a tree that fell on electrical alignment at Khalwadem. A house was damaged at Muthal-Sadolxem after a tree fell on it.
Fire services cut a coconut tree that was dangerously leaning over government primary school at Maxem-Loliem, after residents complained about the danger.
Fire personnel cleared a tree that had uprooted on the Canacona-Agonda road, near Dhavalikar Hospital, partly blocking the road, while the same team rushed to Gulem to clear a tree fallen on NH17 road.
Yet another house was damaged at Sadolcem, after a tree fell on it.
In Palolem, a coconut tree fell missing a house and fire personnel cleared it later. A cashew tree uprooted in Padribhat-Agonda, while a house caught fire at Parvem-Agonda.
Canacona firemen kept busy
While heavy rains poured, fire personnel were kept on their toes since the wee hours of Wednesday attending calls of tree falls on roads and houses in Canacona taluka.
