CANACONA
Residents of Canacona are critical of their MLA and Speaker, Ramesh Tawadkar, for not addressing the serious issue of contaminated water supplied by the PWD to Agonda and Khola in Canacona taluka. They argue that it doesn’t matter which party’s MLA raises the issues; what matters is taking action.
One local resident stated, “If our drinking water is polluted, it will lead to many health problems for everyone in Canacona. The health of our community is at risk.”
Following reports from the Department of Health Services (DHS) about contaminated water, Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari highlighted the issue, and Congress MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira raised it in the Goa Assembly. Despite this, residents feel that no assurances were given by the Speaker or the government to stop supplying unsafe water to Canacona.
On social media, some people are questioning whether Canacona has an MLA, noting that issues in the constituency were raised by MLAs from other areas and not by Tawadkar. Activist Rocky Da Silva pointed out that despite the issue being mentioned in the Assembly, Tawadkar, who was in the Chair, did not respond.
Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari announced that he will continue his campaign against the supply of unsafe water to Agonda and Khola until clean drinking water is provided. Bhandari also criticised the lack of action from the police and PWD regarding his call for an FIR against the responsible engineers.
In response to complaints about contaminated water, Agonda Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes has forwarded a resolution from the recent Gram Sabha to the Assistant Engineer of PWD in Canacona, urging immediate action.
