Canacona residents advised to remain alert against malaria

CANACONA
Stating two dengue and one malaria cases were detected in Canacona recently, Health officials have advised residents of the taluka to remain alert against the Vector Borne Diseases (VBD) as symptoms are same as that of the dreaded Covid infection.

Two suspected dengue cases were found in a residential area of Agonda village in the last 10 days. Besides, in May-end, a person from municipal area was found to be infected with Malaria.

Accordingly,  Health officials from Community Health Centre (CHC) Canacona conducted house-to-house survey at some places and also some of the residents were shown the mosquitoes larvae in water stored or accumulated around their places, which is responsible for spread of vector borne diseases, informed a Health Officer at CHC.

Besides, the lone malaria case found in the month of May is however, seems to a imported case, which means the person got infected while in another State, and later travelled back to his home town.

All the three cases and their sorroundings have been kept under observation, informed the Health officer.

When contacted, Canacona Health Inspector Pranay requested people to remain alert regarding VBD, because the symptoms of VBD are same as Covid..

"Take a look around your house at least once a week and if you find water accumulated or stored in any discarded utensils, bottles or any containers, empty the water. Keep your water filled containers properly covered. Avoid water collection or stagnation even in smallest quantities, just remove small containers and keep them upside down or shift them kept inside the sheds. This will help to break the cycle of mosquito breeding," the Health Inspector said.

The health officials also advised using of mosquito nets, window nets to houses/rooms, and whenever possible spraying chemicals on accumulated and uncovered water.
