According to sources, a group of people, including some elders who got together, erected a life-size effigy of MP Sawaikar at nearby a temple a Poinguinim on Galgibaga road. The protesters shouted slogans against the MP for his utterances against Velingkar and later set the effigy ablaze. According to a member Anil Kamat, these people are core BJP workers who worked to support the BJP candidate in 2012 elections on the plank that the BJP leadership had assured to stop grants to English medium primary schools. “The promise has not being honoured till now and whatever Velingkar is spearheading is correct. We support his views. At the same time, we condemn the manner in which MP Sawaikar uttered those words against Velingkar,” Kamat stated. Besides Kamat, Kashinath Vaze, Satish Bhat and P Painginkar were also part of the effigy burning event.
