CANACONA
A sweetmeat shop owner at Chaudi-Canacona has filed a police complaint against seven persons, accusing them of ransacking his two shops and destroying sweets.
It may be recalled that some residents had accused the owner of the two sweetmeat shops of frequently selling contaminated sweets. An irate mob had recently ransacked the shops, after blaming the authorities for failing to take proper action into a complaint of contaminated sweets.
Narayandas Vaishnavi, owner of Suraj Sweet Mart and Sagar Sweet Mart, who also operates a sweetmeat manufacturing unit at his Chaudi residence, lodged a police complaint and named seven persons from Canacona for wilfully destroying sweets from his two shops.
The owner has also claimed a loss of Rs 1 lakh following the ransacking.
Canacona police have confirmed receipt of the complaint. They informed the sweetmeat owner has named seven persons, while also claiming the involvement of other residents in the act.
They informed further that they have retrieved the CCTV footage from one of the two shops, in which some persons named in the complaint have been captured.
Interestingly, the sweetmeat shop owner in a private video, which has gone viral on social media, has denied naming any person in his complaint to the police.
Following a demand from locals, an FDA team had inspected the two shops and sealed the sweetmeat manufacturing unit being operated by Vaishnavi in his residential house, while also debarring him from selling sweets manufactured at his unit.
