Former Law Minister Ramakant Khalap alleged that the government was selective and biased when it came to giving permissions for grant-in-aid to educational institutes.

Khalap, who is chairman of Vikas Parishad Mandre informed that the government has refused grant-in-aid to Vikas Parishad Mandre’s College of Commerce and Economics at Mandrem.

He pointed out that the grant was refused to his institution on the premise that no grant can be given to two colleges which are within a distance of 15 to 20 kilometres. While many other colleges at Porvorim, Dharbandora, and Borim have been earlier given grant-in-aid by conveniently ignoring this rule, he stated.

Khalap informed that his college has been conducting Bachelor of Commerce course affiliated to the Goa University since 2012-13 and it was approved by then Parriker-led government. “In July 2013, the approval for grant was withdrawn,” he said. He informed that this move by the government was challenged in the HC, which issued an order to restore the grantt-in-aid to the college. But despite the order aid was not given this year and the management was asked to fend for itself.
