While the mining industry received yet another blow on Wednesday with the High Court suspending mining transportation till final disposal of a PIL filed by Goa Foundation, MPT has plans to approach the court for relief on Monday.
“The MPT will appeal to the High Court requesting to permit transportation of ore till the vessels anchored in MPT waters are completely loaded,” MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar told The Goan.
Stating that the official copy of the court order was not received by MPT, Jeyakumar said there were four ships anchored in the outer anchorage, while three ships were already planned.
“Four ships are presently loading in the outer anchorage and three more vessels are being planned and though we have not received official orders, we have heard that the High Court has restricted the movement of iron ore.”
“We will request the HC to reconsider and permit transportation of ore till present vessels in the anchorage and those vessels that are planned can be loaded,” said Jeyakumar.
“Anyway, mining operations have stopped and cargo available was being loaded and the vessels were called and presently they are waiting. Some vessels are partially loaded and standing there and this will cause unnecessary demurrage issues. Contractual issues will also arise with the exporters,” added Jeyakumar.
Jeyakumar was hopeful that the court would permit loading of vessels in MPT waters. “We will seek relief from the court on Monday to permit the loading of those vessels in our waters.”
