Playing a perfect role of the Opposition in the State, Goencho Avaaz on Wednesday called for fresh elections by demanding the dismissal of the current BJP-led government and dissolving the Assembly in the State.
The voluntary organisation, comprising several social forums and organisations, have also demanded scrapping of all ODPs across the State including the “ill-conceived” ODPs in Calangute, Candolim, Arpora and Kadamba Plateau and resolved to have one Regional Plan for the State.
“The present government has ailing ministers and MLAs, including the incapacitated Chief Minister, resulting in no governance and rampant corruption in the State. We therefore demand to dismiss the government, dissolve the Assembly and call for fresh elections,” said Zarina D’Cunha, while addressing the public meeting ostensibly to bring about a second liberation of Goa organised by Goencho Avaaz at the Mapusa taxi-stand.
Passing a series of eight resolutions, Goencho Avaaz also said no to the proposed coal jetties and 25-metre road in villages across Goa, to stop construction of 200-room holiday home project near the Assonora treatment plant, scrapping of the tourism master plan as proposed by the government, not to allow any industry, residential units, hotels, IT Park in eco-sensitive areas and plateaus, including the proposed Chimbel IT Park, and preservation of community lands and therefore opposed housing boards at Tivim and Mulgao.
“This is our last chance in life to bring about a change. Be a part of history. Come out and make your voice heard. Time has come to kick these people (politicians) out,” said Viriato Fernandes, co-convenor of Goencho Avaaz, to a loud applause from the gathering.
He slammed politicians for defecting from parties for selfish gains and exhorted the people to reject such politicians at the next opportunity.
The co-convener lamented that Goa was taken to the cleaners by the present crop of politicians by fooling the common man.
