The Canacona Block Youth Congress staged a protest at Palolem on Saturday, raising serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of roads and the growing number of potholes affecting commuters and residents.
The protesters, led by Block Youth Congress President Manesh Naik Gaonkar, highlighted that the condition of the roads has become a serious public safety concern. The large potholes and uneven road surfaces are causing inconvenience to motorists, pedestrians and local residents, while also raising concerns about accidents and damage to vehicles.
Speaking during the protest, Manesh Naik Gaonkar said the people of Canacona deserve safe and properly maintained roads, not repeated assurances and temporary repairs.
“We are not protesting for politics; we are protesting for the people of Canacona. The government must take responsibility for the condition of our roads and answer the people. Public money is being spent on infrastructure, yet citizens continue to struggle with dangerous potholes. We demand accountability and permanent solutions, not cosmetic repairs,” said Naik Gaonkar.
The Youth Congress demanded that authorities immediately inspect the affected stretches, undertake quality and durable road repairs, and fix responsibility for the continued neglect of the roads.
The protest was held in the presence of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress State Vice President Vaishnav Pednekar, South Goa District Congress Youth President Pralay Bhagat, Youth Congress National Coordinator-in-Charge Battu Srikant, State General Secretary Navdeep Faldessai, Vaishal Pagi, Kiran, Vishwadeep Shettesai, Sunil Gaonkar and others.
