CANACONA
The Canacona Vision and Mission strongly objected to transportation of railway engines via road, endangering lives on the narrow highway road and safety of small bridges and culverts along the NH17. The Mission wrote to the chief minister not to allow its entry on Goan roads.
According to reports, the huge engines loaded on the 90-tyres trailer, which was on its way to Mormugao, was stopped at Polem border and asked to take an alternative route or transport the railway engines on rail tracks.
According to Canacona Vision and Mission members, the driver of the trailer admitted that he had no permission to transport the engines.
People have also raised aspersions saying reputed organizations are putting undue pressure on infrastructure and risk human lives by getting the railway engines on road. The group has threatened to forcibly stop the trailer if it is allowed to enter Goa's road and demanded finding alternate routes.
Besides submitting a copy to Canacona PI to stop the trailer from entering Goa, copies are also submitted to ministers of transport and PWD, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes to act in the matter.
