The Gram Sabha of Cansaulim-Arosim-Culeim Village Panchayat on Sunday unanimously rejected the Regional Plan 2021 and the provisions of Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) in the Town and Country Planning Act.

During the gram sabha, a resident, Jose Fernandes, said the Regional Plan 2021 had fraudulently converted orchards, fields, hills and CRZ land into settlement. “We appeal to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to stick by his promise and denotify the RP 2021 and people of Cansaulim-Arosim-Culeim request our MLA Alina Saldanha to take this issue to the CM and resolve it,” said Fernandes.

The residents also unanimously rejected the draft CRZ notification 2018 and the latest amendment to the CRZ Notification 2011.

Another member and social activist, Olencio Simoes, said if the draft CRZ notification 2018 is approved, then the ecology and traditional communities like fisherman and farmers would be doomed as the entire draft, including reduction of the NDZ, is against the people of Goa.

“We request our chief minister, who is also the environmental minister, to work in the interest of Goans. The draft is against the environment and if passed, will be later amended to suit the corporates, sagarmala projects, ports, builders and the hotel lobby as and when required, as was done in the past where the CRZ 1991 was amended 26 times and the CRZ 2011 has been already amended 16 times in less then seven since it is in force,” said Simoes.
