PERNEM
A group of minor students and the driver had a lucky escape after a jeep met with a self-accident on National Highway 66 at Ugave, Pernem, on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road and overturned due to heavy rain.
According to Pernem Police, the jeep was carrying minor students from Mapusa to Banda for an outing during the São João celebrations.
While travelling along NH-66 near Ugave, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle because of heavy rain and slippery road conditions. The jeep skidded, went off the road, and overturned by the roadside.
The front portion of the vehicle was badly damaged in the accident. However, all passengers escaped without any serious injuries.
After the accident, the occupants reportedly broke open the sunroof and managed to get out safely.
On receiving information, a Pernem police team rushed to the spot, carried out a panchanama, and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
Police sources said the inquiry is being conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Nitin Halarnkar.
