Who’s responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the government primary school   building owned by the Department of Education at Carmona which houses the Rural Medical Dispensary and the anganwadi?

This question is being asked by Carmona villagers as the building complex is now occupied by weeds, shrubs and bushes, indicating absence of maintenance.

In fact, villagers have complained that the building compound plays host to snakes and reptiles since neither department has any plans to allocate money for a clean up.

Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge informed that when he brought the matter to the attention of the Health department, they pointed out that the angawadi should do the cleanup and that they do not contribute to pay even water and electricity bills.

Jorge said while the entire compound and the area was renovated by the Carmona panchayat, petty politics between the government departments now prevents repairing of the building or maintaining of the surroundings.

The Sarpanch reiterated that the Department of Education should hand over ownership of the  premises to the Carmona panchayat for its effective maintenance and renovation as the building needs urgent repairs.

“The property is owned by the Department of Education, while the building has been leased out partly to the Directorate of Health and partly to the Directorate of Women and Child Welfare with clauses that maintenance should be done by the concerned departments,” he

said.
