MARGAO
The Carmona gram sabha on Sunday has opposed the Amendment to the Town and Country Planning Act proposing 10-metre internal roads in the villages.
At the gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Sandra Fernandes, members said the proposed amendment will bring in mega housing projects in the villages thus destroying the basic character of Goan villages.

The issue of charging garbage fees of Rs 75 per household per month notified in the government gazette also came up for discussion.
The gram sabha members opposed the rates specified in the notification, pointing out that the government has failed to provide funds to the coastal panchayat body to fund the garbage management scheme.
Pointing out that Carmona village panchayat in C category Panchayat and is entitled to annual funds amounting to Rs seven lakh for garbage management, the members demanded that the Panchayat utilize the garbage fund instead of imposing fresh garbage fees on the households.
During discussion, the members were informed that the Carmona panchayat had never received the promised funds at any of the financial years with the members insisting that the Panchayat get the government to sanction the allotted funds for the Panchayat.
