A total of 222 cases of violence against women were reported in the state for the period from January 2014 to June 30, 2017.
In reply to a question tabled by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Home Minister Manohar Parrikar informed that the number of cases of violence against women have gown down from 553 in the year 2014 to 412 cases in 2016.
The number of cases reported from January to June this year stood at 222. Of these, majority were cases of molestation, 94 cases.
In addition to this, 44 rape cases, 31 cases of kidnapping, 26 cases of eve-teasing and 12 cases each of cruelty to married woman and immoral trafficking have also been booked. While the number of all other offences booked for violence against women have decreased gradually since 2014, cases of immoral trafficking and dowry deaths has shown a shocking increase.
