PANAJI

The decision of Casino operators in Goa to shut for eight hours from 8 am on Monday as a “mark of respect” for the consecration of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya has evinced much interest in the national media as well as social media platforms.

Shrinivas Naik, who is director of the Majestic Pride group had said on Friday that all the casinos had decided to close operations from 8 am to 4 pm on Monday.

According to Naik the decision was taken because all businesses are shutting and holidays are being declared to allow participation in this “once-in-a-lifetime” event.

“Why should we not do it,” Naik asked.

The State government has declared Monday a holiday for government and semi-government offices.

Meanwhile, the news of Casinos shutting to mark the Ayodhya event got much attention on social media platforms especially ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

A post by  @TimesAlgebraIND stating that Casinos in Goa had voluntarily decided to suspend gaming operations to observe the celebrations for Ram Mandir’s opening in Ayodhya was shared nearly three thousand times and also got more than 20,000 likes.

“The casinos have taken a call to shut operations between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on January 22. ‘Everybody is doing it and why should we not do it. We have faith in Ram. We want to give time to our staff to pray and to watch the live telecast of the consecration of Ram idol” - Majestic Pride group director Shrinivas Nayak’,” the tweet said.
