Cavrem locals march to Quepem police station

CURCHOREM

A large group of villagers from Cavrem marched to Quepem Police station on Wednesday, to protest against the arrest of five locals in connection with the blocking of transportation of e-auctioned ore.

It may be recalled that two days ago, Quepem Police had arrested eight locals from Cavrem on charges of blocking transportation of e-auctioned ore at Cavrem. On Tuesday, out of the eight arrested locals, five were re-arrested on charges of once again blocking the ore transportation at Cavrem. JMFC Quepem had sent them on 11 days remand at Sada Sub jail.

On Wednesday morning, about 250 locals from Cavrem village, including women and senior citizens, gathered at Quepem Police Station to protest against the arrest of the five locals.

AAP party leader Swati Kerkar, Orixtt Porjecho Avaz spokesperson Freddy Fernandes and president Pressy Fernandes rushed to the site and extended their support to the protesters.

Later, a public rally was staged by the Cavrem locals at Quepem.
