Each team will comprise four to six members and will be led by a municipal inspector and recovery officers. Members will include lower and upper division clerks, ward supervisors, community organisers, junior engineers, cashiers. Five CCP wards will be scrutinised by one team in order to prepare a list of buildings which are yet to be included under the house tax regime of CCP.
The list is expected to be submitted to the office of the Mayor within 15 days. Thereafter, the taxation section will in
itiate action to assess the house tax for these buildings over the next 15 days.
In a note dated August 24, Mayor Surendra Furtado has suggested the measure to the CCP Commissioner regarding the recovery of arrears of house tax and other dues of the CCP.
Earlier on August 18, it was suggested that CCP should adopt coercive action against defaulters under the provisions of the CCP Act, 2002.
The Mayor, in his latest communication, has pointed out that there are many buildings within the CCP jurisdiction which remain outside the framework of house tax and are not assessed for tax although these buildings are occupied by owners or purchasers after getting occupancy certificates or without any such certificate.
"This lapse on the part of the officials of the CCP is very serious and has resulted in financial loss to the CCP," the Mayor observed while requesting the Commission to issue an order immediately for setting up of the six teams.
