CCTV cameras fail to make presence in Fatorda as police advisory receives poor response

Has the Big Brother still failed to make his presence felt at the housing societies, houses, bungalows or for that matter flats in the commercial capital? Or, whether the Goa police security advisory to the housing societies and houses to install CCTV surveillance cameras and other security gadgets to keep burglars at bay hardly have few takers?
The daring daylight burglary in a housing society at Borda has brought to the fore these and other questions once again as a survey carried out in Fatorda has revealed that the "Big Brother" is yet to make its presence felt in majority of the housing societies in the jurisdiction of Fatorda police station area.
As it has turned out, the Borda housing society - which was the target of the burglars in broad daylight - appears not the lone society which has overlooked the Goa police advisory by not installing the CCTV cameras. While the 250 CCTV surveillance cameras under the MPLAD scheme is yet to become a reality in the nook and corners of Fatorda till date because of the intervening FIFA U-17 World Cup matches at the Nehru stadium, a large number of housing societies, besides individual bungalows and houses have till date not complied with the advisory.
Following the daring burglary, Fatorda police have found out that hardly a few units have complied with the police advisory, with majority of the residential premises across the police station area not covered by the CCTV surveillance cameras. "The police had distributed the police advisory to the housing societies and individual bungalows when the advisory was issued by the Goa police. Till date, hardly a handful of societies have installed the CCTV facility till date," PI Navlesh Desai said.
He said a CCTV surveillance camera at the Borda housing society would have helped the police to track down the miscreants in Tuesday's daring burglary, but in vain.
In the security advisory, the police had advised the housing societies to install adequate number of CCTV cameras with night vision facility to bring the entire residential area under surveillance with minimum 15 days data storage facility. Since the culprits mostly use vehicles
to commit the crime, at least one surveillance camera should be installed facing the approach road.
The housing societies were further advised to install anti-burglary alarm system for home security, even as the advisory suggested adequate illumination of the residence.
The advisory had further mandated the housing societies to employ security guards around the residence for round the clock guard duty.
