Will the promoters of the Margao Civic Alliance, Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai find out from the Margao Municipal Council whether the defunct Closed Circuit Surveillance TV cameras are restored and whether the civic body has moved the MPs to fund the CCTV cameras project under the MPLAD schemes?
And, whether the two MLAs would take time to find out from the Council over the delay in inking a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resolve the stray dogs issue and the delay in procuring the fleet of garbage compactors and trucks for solid waste management?
At the meeting of the new Council held on July 9, the Margao Municipal Council had resolved to get the existing CCTV cameras repaired and restored and put to use in view of the rising crimes in the commercial capital. Sadly, most of the CCTV cameras remain defunct as the civic body has reportedly not cleared the pending maintenance bills of the contractor.
And, if sources are to be believed, the proposal to get MPLAD scheme funds to cover the entire city with CCTV surveillance cameras has still not materialised yet.
On the stray dogs menace, sources said it’s now 10 months now since the MoU between the civic body and the city-based NGO on the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme had expired on December 31 last year. The civic body had invited another NGO to help and assist the Municipality to tide over the issues on strays, but in vain.
Similarly, the fate of the five compactors and as many open trucks which was to be purchased for solid waste management remains unknown for reasons best known to the civic babus, even as the workers continue to lift the daily waste manually.
