PANAJI:
The Central government has declined Goa’s proposal to grant political reservation to Schedule Tribe community in thr 2027 assembly elections. State tribal department has received a communication in this regard on July 28 from the Legislative Department- Government of India.
The Centre has said that the next delimitation exercise and the readjustment of seats, including the number of seats to be reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and ST would be done after the new Delimitation Commission is constituted based on the census taken after 2026.
Ministry said that until the relevant figures for the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall not be necessary to readjust the seats in the Legislative Assembly of each State.
The state tribal department had in May moved proposal to Centre proposing to reserve four assembly seats for ST.
