Whether he descended along Salcete’s coastal belt on Sunday with BJP workers in tow, Central government’s decision to resolve the OCI issue came in handy for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ring in good news for the Saxttikars.
During an interaction with Colva fishermen, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he have fulfilled the demand of thousands of Goans, who could not obtain the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status as their passports were being revoked after obtaining Portuguese citizenship.
“All these years, our Goan brothers had landed in trouble after they obtained the Portuguese passport. After the people approached me with the issue, I made representation to the Centre with a plea to bring about the changes so that Goans could obtain the OCI status without any difficulty. I am happy to announce that the Centre has acceded to the demand of the people of Goa. This will help them to apply for OCI,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister descended at the four-road junctions near the Colva Church on Sunday evening, before walking down on the road leading to the world famous beach. He is believed to have had interaction with local tourism stakeholders before interacting with the traditional fishermen.
