South Goa District Collector Swapnil Naik has written to the Chief Electoral Officer to permit the Margao Municipal Council to hold a meeting on monsoon preparedness, even as the Collector set February 28 as the deadline for various government agencies to appoint nodal officers and submit a plan of action on monsoon preparedness.
This was decided at a high level meeting chaired by the district Collector, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, and other senior district officials with officials of various government departments and agencies in the district Collectorate on Tuesday.
Sources said that the district Collector has written to the CEO’s office to facilitate the MMC to hold a pre-monsoon preparedness meeting of the Council to chalk out the programme and submit the plan of action to the district administration.
Officials said that all heads of government agencies have been told to appoint nodal officers for better coordination amongst the agencies and to submit a plan of action in respect of roads, sewerage, cutting and trimming of trees, etc.
The mamlatdars have been told to submit a plan on the cleaning of drains, trimming of dangerous branches and desilting of water courses in their respective jurisdiction. The mamlatdars have also been told to draw up a plan of action to identify waterlogged areas and connecting problems arising out of waterlogging.
The mamlatdars have been asked to submit information on medical surplus and also assessment of annual loss and also update and submit list of relief material.
The concerned officers have been told to identify rescue centres in Ponda taluka.
