The State government has finally appointed Education Secretary Prasad Lolayenkar, IAS, as chairperson of Bal Bhavan, months after it had appointed Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar to the post but the latter had refrained from taking charge.
Amonkar, who was one of the eight Congress MLAs who had defected to the ruling BJP in September last year, was one of these five MLAs who was 'accommodated' in a government position.
All these MLAs had take charge of their respective positions except Amonkar who was reportedly unhappy with the spoils of power on offer.
It is unclear as of now whether the Mormugao MLA will be entrusted with any other responsibility.
Three other turncoat MLAs -- Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira and Michael Lobo -- have similarly not been given any government position although there are persistent rumours that the Kamat-Sequeira duo will be included in the Cabinet.
